Tournament Field Capped
October 9, 2006
BROOKLYN, MI — The Carl Spackler Open remains "open" with its event registration, however the 7th major championship will cap the field at 68 golfers due to lodging restraints with Richard Petty's Driving School. The cap results from physical space reserved for the school and alternatives for exceeding the cap are presently unknown.
"We will start with a hard-nose cap at 68 golfers," said Chairman of the Captains Club, Greg Long. "There is one hotel in Brooklyn and 34 guaranteed rooms. The Petty School is expected to be June 1-3, however a chosen date will not take place until January 31.
Tournament golfer registrations exceeding the cap will be signed if the Richard Petty Driving School does not directly conflict with the Carl Spackler Open. As of today, we unfortunately have a physical cap."
The Captains Club will accept tournament registrations in order of postmarked date regardless of seniority. "Unfortunately, we are avoiding the favorites game," said Long. "We will accept the checks as fast as we can receive them."
The tournament is expected to be sign 60-72 golfers, but it only takes a couple of unknown rookies to reach the physical cap.
"We suggest your non-refundable deposit is mailed early if you plan to attend," said Rick Dosky, Chief Financial Officer of the Carl Spackler Open. "Send a check today if you wish. We expect to receive deposits based on the priority to each golfer."
The 2007 Carl Spackler Open Championship will be held at Grande Golf Club just south of Jackson, MI. Formal registration will be available online starting November 15. The deadline for registration is postmarked by December 28 or reaching the cap of 68 golfers; whichever comes first.
