What's New?

November 20, 2006

PITTSBURGH, PA — The #1 amateur golf tournament is changing once again. With new venues each and every year along with unique ideas, the Captains Club published the known changes for June 2007.

Jeremy Myers, CEO of the Captains Club, took control of the announcements.

"Our lodging has expanded into three additional services," said Jeremy Myers. "We are expanding the beds for big guys like Mike Trojanowski. All rooms will be equipped with queen beds. We have also included a continental breakfast for everyone and a very large banquet room for several planned activites."

Myers also announced the golf course changes including massive greens and fairways, brand new electric golf carts, complimentary yardage book, an expanded practice facility and uniquely cut bunkers. "It should also be noted that the clubhouse will also be the smallest in our history," Myers said.

"Our teeing format will be straight tee on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday," said Matt Davis, a.k.a. Pokey as he took control of the announcements. "The teeing format on Friday is expected to be dual-tee or "cross-over" as termed in Michigan. This will re-open the door to SNN coverage, online scoring during play and further camaraderie on the range, first tee and 18th green."

The 4-man Scramble will not be held at the tournament course in 2007. "We have a great opportunity to try something new this year," said Mike Trojanowski. "We are seizing the opportunity to see if a different course altogether might add to the overall enjoyment of the team event."

The practice round will be offered in two waves in June. This change accommodates the golfers wishing to arrive early to the Welcome Party at the Beach Bar. The lakefront patio has live music starting at 5:00PM.

Our entertainment has also changed this year to include live music, lakefront bars, go karts and Michigan International Speedway.

The weather is expected to change in 2007 with much cooler temperatures. Jackson and Brooklyn average high temperature in the mid to upper 70's. They also boast the lowest average June precipitation (3.26 inches) of any past venue.

Golfers can expect the 2nd shortest daily drive from lodging to golf course of any past venue. This is a welcome change with the past two years at 60 minutes round trip. A possible inexpensive taxi company has been quoted and presently being evaluated as an option to further promote safe transportation in the evenings.

The 2007 Carl Spackler Open Championship is scheduled for June 7. The Captains Club is expecting between 60-72 golfers to sign prior to January. Official registration began Wednesday.
