PITTSBURGH, PA — Matt Davis, a.k.a. Pokey, is soundly rebuilt and making a final run for the Virtual Tournament Championship. Davis has been swinging the club less and less ever since he nearly cut off his left hand in January 2005.

"It has been very frustrating," says Pokey of his last two seasons. "With all the frustrations, the results of my newly constructed left hand was worth the wait. The doctors did a nice job with my bionic hand; my touch around greens continues to be astonishing."

Davis' latest round was posted on October 30 when he scored 57 points at Village Green Golf Course southwest of Pittsburgh. The round included 9 pars and 1 birdie and places control back in Pokey's hand.

"He looks very good right now," says brother Mike Davis, a.k.a. Gumby. "He is clearly a better golfer than me right now. It is amazing what 8 surgeries can do."

A reporter asked Gumby whether he should consider a snowblowing accident. His quick and stern reply, "No."

Davis added, "It is just a matter of removing the big numbers from future scorecards. The double and triple bogeys are keeping me from scratch."

Captains Club member Matt Davis leapfrogs Scott Zavinski into second position with 48.9 points per round. He remains 5.5 points per round behind Captains Club member Jason Watson for first position.

In related news, Jason Watson hit a career high 71 points last week outside Houston, TX. The 7-over 79 was also a career low number of strokes. Watson was 1-over par through 10 holes before falling apart down the stretch.

The 2006 Virtual Tournament ends in 55 days.
