Slipping Away
November 27, 2006
SKILLMAN, NJ — This year, for the first time ever, Nick Casale appears to be slipping away and playing bogey golf when at his best. He is beating just 12 players after yet another disappointing performance in the Virtual Tournament, shooting an 21-over 93 last Sunday in his 12th round of the season.
Casale's round included a spectacular birdie at the 13th hole when Casale found the bottom of the cup earlier than expected. The lone birdie was thought to be hidden behind the quadruple and triple bogeys on the two front nine par 3's.
"Not good, but nothing that should cause major concerns," said Casale after the round. "The back nine was pretty good and the weather is not ideal."
Casale moves into a tie for 47th position with 30.3 points per round. He opened the season with an impressive handicap after placing 4th in the 2005 Virtual Tournament.
"I didn't play like myself today and it doesn't bother me because I know I can play much better than this," remarked Casale. "I learn a lot from playing in the Carl Spackler Open."
In other news, the tournament leader Jason Watson poured in 65 and 70 points respectively last week. The Texas Star continues to extend his lead in the 2006 Virtual Tournament that ends in 33 days.
