Last Call!

December 20, 2006

JACKSON, MI — Greg Long, on behalf of the 12-member Captains Club, held the last press conference before the national signing period expires. He provided some additional information along with making himself available for a few questions regarding the tournament in Michigan.

"Last Call! Everyone has about one week left," said Long. "December 28. 120 bucks. Non-refundable. Any questions?"

Matt Pritchard asked nicely, "Why is the signing period during the expensive Christmas season?" Long replied, "Because Christmas credit card bills come due in January and February. Because Dosky accepts checks in September and October. Because there are 1 2 3 paychecks in December for the majority of the field."

Pritchard replied, "Good answers. One more question. Is Ridgeway really getting 1 point for bogey this June?" Long answered, "It all depends on his scorecards this spring. As of today, he is getting 3 points for par or 1 point for bogey and 2 points for par. Probably 3 points for par and zero for bogey, but it is very close. It is important to remember Ridgeway's target will be around 66-70 points per round and Dosky might get 3 points for triple bogey."

Jim English, a 2-time member representing Pennsylvania, stepped forward with a couple of questions. "What do you think the biggest change will be this year in Michigan?" Long thought for a moment and replied, "We are sleeping, drinking and playing golf again. The core is the same, but the everywhere is different. The biggest change will probably the absence of 'all you can drink' on the golf course. The Neuse was a pretty special place."

English said, "One more question. What do you see as the biggest risk or disappointment going into 2007?" Long replied, "The biggest risk is always weather. The golf, go karts and Beach Bar entirely depend on it. The biggest disappointment will probably be the traditional 10-15 guys that will be traditionally replaced by rookies. We lost 17 guys last year due to location and would expect similar absences this year."

Greg Long glanced at his cell phone and said, "I will take one more question."

Chris Philipsen shouted, "Any surprises this year?" Long replied, "Probably the small town of Brooklyn and entertainment it provides on warm/sunny days. I was surprised to see locals using boats and canals instead of cars and roads. This place is very unique and planning the entertainment around the town."

The 2007 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins in 168 days. The tournament registration period ends in 7 days.
