OlaFowble Formalizes Intent

January 22, 2007

MARYSVILLE, OH — Tom Fowble, the winner of the 2003 Golden Jacket, signs to participate in his 5th straight major championship. He registered for the tournament after playing a practice round for charity with Jim Thorpe.

"I am not about to skip a tournament that has made me famous," said Tom OlaFowble after his round. "That would be like Olazabal skipping the Masters."

Fowble was asked if he had any immediate thoughts regarding the Michigan tournament. "Jim has committed to the Principal Charity Classic in Iowa during Spackler. We talked about my attendance during our round today and we both think Spackler is the best place for me. In his absence, he really thinks a twirl of the club during my follow through would be a great addition to Spackler. I am strongly considering it."

Tom Fowble stormed into Thunder Hill back in June 2003 to win his first Golden Jacket. Fowble is a strong part of the very strong field from Ohio with four Jackets. He plans to join Greg Long and most likely Rick Dosky of Ohio, who both have jackets.

OlaFowble has been struggling for years with his putting stroke. "Fowble has always struggled on difficult greens," says member Jason Watson. "He has held the Rusty Rod for 2 years (the worst putter in Spackler history) and took home the Dooty Award in his rookie season. The Grande is the wrong place to dig himself out of a hole. The monsterous greens could send Tom Fowble into multiple 4-putts.

The 2007 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins in 135 days. There are 55 players signed to participate in the 7th annual tournament.
