Field Set at 60
January 19, 2007
COLUMBUS, OH — Greg Long, on behalf of the Captains Club, released the tournament field on Thursday afternoon. The number of players is expected to be 60 golfers from a record 14 different states.
"We have replaced quite a few guys this year," said Long. "There are a lot of guys with other things going on."
The present signings reached 46 back in early January. The Captains Club has been holding remaining checks with a focus on a tournament field divisible by 4.
"The field of 60 golfers is important to maintaining the overall budget," said Long. "We have checks from 58 golfers and waiting on the post office for two more. We have signings from North Carolina, Texas, Georgia, Illinois, California and even Hawaii."
The field could jump to 64 golfers over the next two months as well as fall in late-April during the annual withdrawal season. The Captains Club is expected to set the field at 60 golfers and place future checks on a waiting list.
In other news, the half-way point for remaining balances is March 1. The optional benchmark was added to the itinerary for guys wishing to break up their remaining balance. Golfers can send any amount at anytime to Rick Dosky.
The tournament Option Selector will be available in a few weeks with selections beginning on March 8. "We have 10-12 options this year," said Long. "Everyone has 31 days to complete their options. The optional process is expected to take each golfer 10-20 minutes."
The 2007 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins on June 7. An optional practice round is scheduled for June 6 in two waves to accommodate the live music at the Beach Bar.
