JAMESTOWN, NY — Barry Cedarquist, a.k.a. the Bear, signed the required paperwork in mid-January to play golf at the 2007 Carl Spackler Open Championship. Barry makes a surprise return after his rookie season at Thunder Hill Golf Club.
"It is a great to be back," says Cedarquist. "I hope McElroy is going to be there. That was a great week nearly 4 years ago."
The Bear signs with a rumored 4.6 stroke handicap. The low handicap places him in great position for low total run against Jason Ridgeway and Marty Zabonik.
"I hope this is not another deflated handicap," says member Ridgeway. "Bring it if you have it."
Cedarquist joins Captains Club member Mike Trojanowski and rookie Harold Anderson from Jamestown, NY. Trojanowski makes his seventh-straight attendance.
Trojanowski, a.k.a. Troj, last played golf in Raleigh when he posted a "middle of the pack" tie for 30th position. He also placed in a tie for 30th with total strokes.
Trojanowski's finish can be attributed to the longest drive to venue last June. He also played 3 practice rounds prior to the event, which included the longest hole in the world at 841 yards. The par 6 ate his lunch pushing him into a double bogey snowman.
"The Grande is my type of golf course," says Troj. "A grip and rip it course gives me a tremendous advantage." Troj is 1 of 6 participants with experience at the forgiving Grande.
Harold Anderson, a.k.a. Paco, rounds out the triple signing to represent New York. Paco adds another single-digit handicap to the field of players.
The plumber from Sherman, NY loves Jackson Valley Country Club where he takes advantage of the hilly terrain. "Controlling my hook is my only concern," says Anderson. "This rookie will be prepared to attack the pins and the tournament Leaderboard."
The triple signing from New York follows the sigining of Rob Reustle from New York. Barry, Troj and Paco enter the field as the 52nd, 53rd and 54 players.
There are 58 days before the practice round. Remaining balances are due in the mail by April 26. An awards presentation is scheduled for June 9 in the Super 8 Activity Room.
