Slice to Host Welcome Party
May 3, 2007
JACKSON, MI — With the announcement of the Grande Golf Club and Brooklyn as the choice venue for the 2007 Carl Spackler Open Championship, the Captains Club reiterated the intentions for Wednesday afternoon's Welcome Party.
"We are very excited about Michigan and the opportunities it provides," said Jason Watson, Vice President of Awards. "The Brooklyn culture is very different than previous venues and boasts unique entertainment including lakefront live music by Slice."
Slice is scheduled to play on the patio stage at The Beach Bar starting at 5:30PM. The band comes from nearby Owosso, MI.
The Beach Bar is located off the east shore of Clark Lake. The restaurant/bar was renovated in November 2006. It was fully furnished inside and out including a large outdoor patio with stage and live band. The Beach Bar was fully equipped with foozball table, pool table, screened in patio, indoor restaurant, indoor and outdoor bar, televisions and marina for boating patrons.
"The Beach Bar is our first of many prized possessions this June," said Kevin Long, Jr.. "It will host our Welcome Party on Wednesday evening and praying like crazy for outstanding weather."
The Beach Bar throws its weekly parties for locals on Sunday and Wednesday evenings during the active summer season. The live music is provided from 5:30PM-9:30PM each week, which did conflict with the traditional Carl Spackler itinerary.
The Captains Club capitalized on the Wednesday opportunity at The Beach Bar. The practice round was offered in two waves this year to accommodate the highlighted entertainment. The first wave has gathered the most participants, however the traditional mid-afternoon round also remains popular.
"I shook my head twice in disbelief," said 4-time member Chad Long during his July 2006 visit. "There were 25 scattered boats anchored on the shore outside the bar with about 100 people wading in the water, jet skiing and socializing over ice cold beer and listening to the live band. That was a great day to be in Brooklyn."
The Beach Bar is noted for their Italian dishes including the best pizza in the county. It is located 8 minutes from the Super 8 Motel and exactly halfway between the hotel and golf course. A domestic beer with no cover is expected to be $3.00.
The "last call" for alcohol is approximately 9:30PM on Wednesday. The remainder of the evening entertainment will be moved to the Old Town Bar in downtown Brooklyn. Pitchers of beer are reportedly $3.50.
A taxi service will be available from 4:30PM to 10:30PM on Wednesday. The taxi will transport golfers from the Super 8 Motel to the Beach Bar and return them to the motel or take them to the Old Town Bar, which is shorter.
Further details surrounding the Beach Bar can be found on their new website at www.beachbarclarklake.com.
The 2007 Carl Spackler Open Championship is scheduled for June 7 with practice round on June 6. There are 62 golfers from a record 15 states. A mandatory player meeting is scheduled for 8:00AM on Thursday morning.
