Hays Withdrawals
April 17, 2007
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — The 2007 Carl Spackler Open Championship expanded to 64 golfers back in mid-March with additions from Georgia, Illinois and California. With funding due in the mail next week, the season of withdraws is upon the business office.
As predicted, the business office received their first withdrawal from the tournament Monday night from Chris Hays of Virginia Beach, VA. "Due to recent circumstances, I have to forfeit my position in your tournament," said Hays in a quick statement. "Work obligations and the lack of vacation time will prevent my attendance. I do predict that Jay Glover will repeat as Carl. You heard it here first! I will be there next year for sure. Good Luck Men."
Hays was rumored to be withdrawing after choosing not to fill out the option selector. The April 26 deadline is looming for many and Hays finally relayed his withdrawal from the Championship.
"Things are starting to get moving as outstanding balances are finally due," says Rick Dosky. "The tournament never expects everyone to attend. Our withdrawal rate was 9.4 percent last year and not expecting this year to be zero. We take deposits to curb the withdraw rate, cut all tourney losses, and try to replace."
"We have a spot open," says Dosky. "As a collective group, we ask that everyone keeps their eyes and ears open. Please address openings with our Chairman, Greg Long."
Hays nearly took home the Carl Spackler Outfit last summer in Raleigh. He scored just 20 points total in Rounds 2 and 3. The two rounds also included zero long putt points.
Matt Pritchard was disappointed of the withdrawal, however for other reasons. "As the 2006 Crapper, I was counting on Hays participation this year and transferring ownership of the Crapper," said a very disappointment and scared Pritchard. "This is not good news."
The 2007 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins play in 50 days.
