Super Practice Facility
May 18, 2007
JACKSON, MI — The Grande Golf Club is the choice venue for the 2007 Carl Spackler Open Championship. The design has record-size greens, bunkers and fairways. The Captains Club reiterated the monsterous practice facility is not record-size, but compares only to The Colonial in Williamsburg.
"The practice facility is huge," says Mike Trojanowski, loser of the 2001 Carl Spackler Outfit. "I can promise the largest putting green, largest practice bunkers and clearly the truest roll of any chipping green in our history."
The Colonial Golf Club in Williamsburg provided 3 regulation size practice holes in addition to a super practice range and green for practice.
The practice green at the Grande measures 200 feet from side to side with the very unique flat roll. "I plan to challenge anyone to get the ball across the green with a putter," says Trojanowski. "There is enough space for the entire field."
There are two practice greens including one smaller green adjacent to the 1st tee box for last second practice.
In addition to the putting surfaces, there is a regulation size green for chipping. The multiple practice bunkers are large and soft with white sand. "The practice bunkers are great additions to the facility," says Trojanowski with a scare. "They are replicas of the on-course experience. Very large, deep and ragged."
"The Skills Challenge should be really fun this year," says Trojanowski. "There are plenty of very quick breaking putts and bunkers that will be used as a potential change of format."
The practice range is wide providing 40 spaces for loosening up the shoulders and driver shaft. The range has many greens with flags for dialing in shots.
The 2007 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins on June 7 with Round 1 play. There are 64 golfers signed to participate in the 7th Major Championship.
