Glover Surges

August 6, 2007

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Jay Glover, a.k.a. Homer, surged over the weekend in Virginia Beach. The surge came at Riverfront Golf Club and the tough TPC at Virginia Beach, which is much more difficult than "family fun centers" in and around the beach area.

Glover shot 11-over during both rounds, which is huge turnaround from his skills presented in June 2006. The Saturday round at Riverfront included 10 pars and 1 birdie. The 11 holes poured in a staggering 60 points. Glover scored 84 points overall, which was clearly his best effort since the opening round of the 2007 Carl Spackler Open.

"The banana slice of old is almost non-existent," says Glover of his new restaurant waiter style swing. "Putting the club in the proper position at the top of the swing has completely changed my way around the golf course. I am still rocking my way through the swing, but it is working for me. It is also working for Virtual Tournament Leader John McAninch, which means it is not all that bad."

Glover also posted a round at Virginia Beach's TPC course. He scored 6 pars and another rare birdie at the difficult course. "The shortened yardage disguised an average round at best," said Glover of the 72 point effort. "The course is difficult, but much of the fairway difficulty was removed from the front tees."

Glover did not post a triple bogey or worse over the 36 holes.

In other news, Scott Mealey has been playing lots of golf as of late. He entered the season-long tournament over the weekend in 44th position after a disappointing 49 point effort in Diamond Ridge near Baltimore.

Marty Zabonik poured in 76 points at his home course over the weekend. The round, which started poorly with three bogeys in the first 6 holes ended with a 2-over 74. The round from nearly 7,000 yards was considered stellar by many Spackler members. Zabonik continues to hold third position.

Chris Milam scored a surprising 11 bogeys and 2 pars over the weekend at Birkdale. The 69-point effort bumped him upward into a tie for 19th position in the 2007 Virtual Tournament.
