Buffalo Tossed Out
September 24, 2007
BUFFALO, NY — The Captains Club announced today they have tossed out Diamond Hawk Golf Course in nearby Buffalo, NY. The decision to be removed from the nomination list comes just one week before the scheduled 2008 Carl Spackler Open venue announcement.
"Diamond Hawk is an opportunity," says Greg Long, Chairman of the Captains Club. "We are parting ways for reasons of course character, airport noise, and course immaturity."
Diamond Hawk Golf Course is a sparking, state-of-the art, $10 million facility that opened in August 2006. It is located just 1/8 mile from a dozen hotels and 1/4 mile from Buffalo International Airport.
The venue was less than a two-hour drive from Warren, PA. The possible Buffalo venue selection would have virtually returned most of the Captains Club to their roots for the 8th Major Championship.
"As far as New York State, we are very excited with Conklin Players Club and Binghamton," says Long. "Very happy and very comfortable. It says nothing to the great facilities in and around Buffalo."
The 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship will be held in Peru, IN or jointly in Binghamton and Conklin, NY. A venue announcement is scheduled for next Monday morning. Both venues are considered very strong and likely to host both the 2008 and 2009 tournaments.
