Best Lodging Ever
November 19, 2007
PERU, IN — The Captains Club announced today the lodging plans for the 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship. The lodging located just 5 to 7 minutes from golf course, dinner, and nightly entertainment will be the best quality in event history.
"We are very pleased with our lodging arrangements this year," said Pat Boland of the Captains Club. "The lodging is clean and very nice. As nice as Raleigh, but with seven additions."
Boland took a drink of gatorade and continued, "Raleigh was our best hotel ever with the Flying Saucer across the street, but that elevator and parking were pains in the ass. It was very clean, but did not have breakfast included or a working swimming pool for caddy hour."
The Best Western is just two stories tall with easy accessibility and plenty of parking. The small indoor pool is a first ever for Spackler. The hotel includes breakfast with omelets, sausage, etc.. The choice hotel will provide a very very small lounge inside for evening nightcaps. The rooms are equipped with queen beds for the first time in history. The hotel will provide a first floor meeting room for tournament activities and management space. Lastly, the hotel is five minutes maximum to the golf course.
Senior Member Robby Fustich asked, "Sounds like the best of Brooklyn and Raleigh mixed together." Boland replied, "Yes. Plus a very small bar in the hotel, larger beds, and very short commute to golf."
The hotel, golf course, and nightly entertainment are all located within the Peru city limits. The three are mapped in a triangle pointing east. The hotel is the most southwest and the golf course is the most northwest. Downtown Peru is your eastern point and equal distance (5 minutes) from Rock Hollow and the Best Western.
"We were simply stunned," said Tom Fowble of his visit to the hotel. "The lodging choice has everything, but a meeting room the size of last year and fifty rooms with two beds."
The Best Western Circus City is named after Peru's claim to fame. The Circus Hall of Fame, which can be found just east of downtown. The golden age of the American circus began in Peru back in 1870. For over the past 125 years, there as been more circus activity in Peru than anywhere else in the world.
"This is great news," said John Dick in Warren, PA. "The circus that surrounds Spackler is returning home at last. Maybe I can find my sons some employment while in town."
Pat Boland finished his statement by saying, "I just need a bed and a shower, but the lodging is pretty good. I was excited about the distance to Rock Hollow Golf Club. This is a welcome change. I made it to the clubhouse parking lot in under 5 minutes."
In other news, the participant outlook was elevated with tournament cap becoming highly probable. Unexpectedly, Jim Campbell filed his written commitment to attend the 8th Major Championship last week. Mike Watkeys filed a strong verbal commitment for what thats worth. Even a bigger surprise, Chris Hays and Jeff Tatum filed their written commitments to the Indiana event. With 3 financially committed participants, there are 62 participants with verbal or written commitments, plus 13 questionable, plus an unknown number of unregistered rookies.
The 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship opens play on June 5. There are 68-72 participants now expected for the 8th Major Championship. Participants are urged to mail their deposits as soon as possible.
