ALPINE LAKE, WV — Greg Long, the 8-year member of Golfapalooza, continued to release smidges of his new book, “Memories: How I lived Golfapalooza”, which is due out to book stores in a couple of weeks. Long, a.k.a. Slick, was asked to walk through Chapter 5, which is titled, “The Front Nine” as it provides his insights of how to play the Ron Forse par 72 golf course.

“The sixth hole is a 182-yard par 3," said Long with a frustrated face. "It is uphill and hitting it on the green does not guarantee double bogey. If the pin is up front, you cannot par this hole without luck and prayer. The green is severely slanted green from back to front. The bunkers in front are friendly as long as the deer poop is not stuck to your ball for bad luck.

During Round 1 back in September 2003, Max Dieterle hit his tee shot into the bunker short right of the green. We all saw it land in the bunker, but could not find it. The entire foursome looked and looked in and around the bunker.

Someone noticed a fresh damp sand spot at the top of the bunker looked like a mini-avalanche. Spraguer dug down about ½ inch and found a few dimples peering out of the sand. Dieterle covered it back up by rule and swung as hard as Double G off the tee.

His ball never moved, but six pounds of sand was moved to the green. Max could now see the top half of his ball. Max proceeded to swing again with par just 17 yards away. He knocked it close and scored a bogey; our team low ball.
