Myers on the Prowl

August 29, 2003

WILSON, NC — Jamie Myers, Captains Club Member and CEO, announced his surprising commitment to play in Winston-Salem, North Carolina tomorrow afternoon at Tanglewood Park.  This comes after intentions by the chairman, Greg Long had made to play the possible 2004 Spackler Open golf course.  Myers, with two young children and wife made the necessary adjustments to acquire the needed kitchen pass and make the trip to Winston-Salem.

Tanglewood Park was ranked the 65th best public course in America by Golf Digest in 2003.  It sits waiting as a potential 2004 Spackler tournament course and 19 spots ahead of the 84th best public course in America.  That being Tiger's Eye, the home of the 2001 Spackler Open.  "This course is unbelievable", said Myers.  "The only more unbelievable feature of this golf course is the 490 yard par 4 #5 and the price to play."  Tanglewood Park charges only $44.50.

Greg Long responded to the Myers recent intentions, "I am coming off a 52 stroke whipping of my brother.  If the course is a championship style course, this could be ugly."  The course presents more sand traps than Thunder Hill, holes cut out of the forest and a few water hazards.

In addition to it's great value and ranking as a public facility, Tanglewood Park has been the home of the R.J.R Vantage Championship on the Senior PGA Tour for many years.  Tour Pro Larry Nelson won the event last year taking home $240,000.  Although Larry shot under par, Jamie Myers fully expects to shoot over par.  "I think we could see another 140+ performance", said Greg Long.  "I'll be helping Myers every chance I get, but help can only go so far."
