Marti Shines Again
September 24, 2007
MOUNT VERNON, OH — The 2007 Virtual Tournament will begin the final quarter of the season starting next Monday. Kyle Marti continues to shine again as he holds first position in the season-long tournament. He also continues a strong presence while playing without course knowledge and on the road.
Marti carded 6 pars last Friday afternoon at Chapel Hill Golf Course. The round was played with the Long brothers before their trip up north for Penn State vs Michigan football game.
"I was worried right away," says Marti after opening with a triple bogey. "You can feel the day going the wrong way. It was great to be able to get things going on the 5th hole."
Kyle scored 77 points and added 0.3 points per round to his tournament lead. The round at Chapel Hill was his third-in-a-row 21-over par 93. The round also represents his 6th straight 70+ point round.
Partner Brian Long was "under-fire" once again. He shot a near career low 13-over 85 at Chapel Hill on Friday. The monsterous round included 7 pars and 2 birdies. Long poured in 80 points and grabbed 10th position in the Virtual Tournament.
"It was nice day," said Brian of his round. "The quadruple bogey at the 2nd hole will haunt me for at least 6 months."
The 2007 Virtual Tournament continues for 3 months as colder temperatures are expected to settle in soon. There are 61 players in the tournament with Rick Dosky clearly grabbing the bottom spot. Matt Davis has literally a few weeks to make a legendary move to grab some glory.
