Slick Formalizes Intent

November 23, 2007

COLUMBUS, OH — The Captains Club announced today the signing of their Chairman, Greg Long of Columbus, Ohio, to play golf at the 2008 Carl Spackler Open in Peru, IN. Slick files this letter of intent as the third player and follows Golden Jacket winner Brian Flanagan from Ohio.

The Warren, PA native returns to Spackler in search of his 2nd Golden Jacket with what is expected to be a very strong and competitive field. His resume includes 14 major championships since 2001 and second highest scorecard volume with 301 submitted scorecards.

"Greg is a wonderful young man and he will continue to add a great deal of depth to a very strong line-up," said Mike Trojanowski. "Slick has mainly competed on the amateur circuit, but has already proven that he can play with the best players. He continues to represent Ohio, which produces some of the best players every year. Greg works very hard and is very competitive which is an attribute that will take him a long way."

Long's accomplishments include the 2001 Golden Jacket, 2003 Closest to the Pin Contest, and part of the 2005 winning 4-man Scramble team. He is in 8th place within the 2007 Virtual Tournament with 70.8 points per round. He is the 14th best player in Spackler history from an impressive list of 42 senior participants.

"I am very excited about returning to the Open Championship and especially Rock Hollow Golf Club," says Long. "It is a great course that sets up well for my straying driver. It is the kinda course that makes you think as a golfer. Both the shot placement required and course experience gives me a clear edge on much of the tournament field."

Long is one of three known participants with Rock Hollow experience. The others are potential rookie Rob Harvey and senior member Tom Fowble.

In other news, verbal and written commitments to the website have exploded in November. Rudy Bailey, Tim Rooney, and two other rookies are rumored to participate. The rumor mill boosts again to 56 participants plus 13 financially signed participants. Additionally, there are 10 questionable participants and unknown number of unregistered rookies.

The Carl Spackler Open is scheduled to begin in just under 194 days. A tournament cap of 68 golfers has been established to fill the 34 available hotel rooms. Golfers have 35 days to sign for the best amateur tournament in America.
