Slick Places 2nd; Retires
September 29, 2003
TERRA ALTA, WV — Greg Long almost survived some anxious moments Saturday to win Golfapalooza 2003, a feat even he considered unlikely just days ago. Slick shot an impressive 3-under including five birdies in an attempt to close the door in the final round.
Slick closed with a 68 points for a 162 total, ten points behind Don Sprague. Gus Sokos placed 4th while Brian Flanagan placed 5th respectively. Defending champion Jason Watson rounded out the top 10.
"I just hit some good shots and played really solid final round," Slick said. "I plan to retire from golf effective immediately. That pretty much sets a bar that cannot be matched with a full time job." Slick made a late charge with birdies on #11, #13 and #14.
Slick mentioned that he plans to play golf a few celebrity events and tournaments, however will not make an attempt to play weekend golf for years.
Rick Dosky placed 21st and Don McFarland placed 24th in the 7th annual Golfapalooza tournament.
