Last Call

December 28, 2007

DUBLIN, OH — Greg Long, on behalf of the 12-member Captains Club, held the last press conference before the national signing period expires. He provided some additional information while hitting balls at the range along with making himself available for a few questions regarding the tournament in Indiana.

"Last Call! Everyone has a few remaining hours to get their registration postmarked," said Long. "December 28. 120 bucks. Non-refundable. Non-transferable. Any questions?"

Matt Pritchard asked, "Why is the signing period during the expensive Christmas season?" Long replied, "Because Christmas credit card bills come due in January and February. Because Dosky accepts checks in September, October, and November. Because nobody should be sending in deposits in late-December. Their wife or girlfriend should be registering guys as their Christmas gift."

Pritchard replied, "Good answer."

Jim English, a 2-time member representing Pennsylvania, stepped forward with a couple of questions. "What do you think the biggest change will be this year in Indiana?" Long thought for a moment and replied, "We are sleeping, drinking and playing golf again. The core is the same, but the location makes things different. The biggest change will probably be unnoticed. The vendors and facilities will make the tournament execution smoother than ever."

English said, "One more question. What do you see as the biggest risk or disappointment going into 2008?" Long replied, "The biggest risk is always weather. The Michigan weather last June cannot be beat anywhere in the world. That whole weekend was incredible and the weather was a very large part of that. We are due for heavy rain. The biggest disappointment will probably be the traditional 18 guys that will be replaced by rookies. We lost a record-high 23 guys from Raleigh and 17 after Mountain Valley. I would expect a much lower count for Indiana, but at least 10 absences this year."

Greg Long glanced at his cell phone and said, "I will take one more question."

Chris Philipsen shouted, "Any surprises this year?" Long replied, "Probably the small town of Peru and the overall value it provides. The golf course is ridiculously cheap. The prices for everything are cheaper than ever. The entertainment at Homer's is underrated in the fun factor column."

The 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins in 159 days at Rock Hollow Golf Club. Tournament registration expires today. There are 75 participants with verbal, written, or financial commitments to participate.
