Winter Wonderland
January 14, 2008
DUBLIN, OH — Brian Flanagan is taking advantage at the local driving range prices during the winter season, which has dropped freezing cold temperatures in northwest Columbus. Reactions to "Flanagan's Winter Wonderland" ranged from overwhelming support to absolute bewilderment.
"I think it's really great, it shows true commitment and leadership from our Chairman", said Carl Spackler himself. "This is the kind of thing that led me to develop the website and the Carl Spackler Open Championship, people like the Butter there. Just think of the dedication it takes to venture out into the cold, mind you, and hit ball after ball after ball, getting ready for this year's golf season. It truly brings tears to my eyes. You'll never catch Tiger doing that. Kinda reminds me of the time I spent with the Lama, you know, the Dalai Lama, up there in the mountains of Tibet."
Judge Smails had a different view. "Why, I've never seen the likes of this. What kind of an idiot goes to the driving range and hits golf balls in a snow, anyway?" Then Smails looked around, then lowered his voice to a whisper, and said, "We caught Spackler hitting flowers with a weed whacker, blabbering on about winning the Masters for crying out loud! How can anybody take this guy seriously?"
Some of the players responded as well. "Wow. I guess my challenge carried a lot of weight. I didn't think my comments about Butter's game would make him go to this extreme," remarked a startled Greg Garrett upon hearing about Flanagan's adventure. "Funny thing is, I slammed his putting, not his length off the tee", added Garrett, with a puzzled look on his face.
The 2008 Virtual Tournament is slowly underway with a few rounds being played in the southern climates. An expected 60 golfers are expected to be active by Memorial Day Weekend.
