Jonno and John Commit
February 20, 2008
WARREN, PA — Jon Marti, a.k.a. Jonno, announced in late-December that he will be the 39th player to commit and fully expects to shine in his third straight tournament. Naturally, a few Captains Club members accompanied Marti to his press conference.
"Today we announce Jon Marti has signed for our 8th chapter of the Carl Spackler Open," said Brian Long. "Jon signs after placing 22nd in Michigan."
Jonno is a 23.6 stroke handicap and the best lawyer in the tournament field. "I am glad to be back," said Marti. "I look back at my rookie year and see the traditional rookie mistakes. I finished in 44th position and returned in Michigan with lessons learned. I cut half the gap last June after placing 22nd. I have lessons learned yet again and will cut the gap in half again. A 11th place finish is my goal in Indiana."
In other news, John Everill, Sr. of Phoenix, AZ signed as the 40th player to the tournament field. Everill will represent a first-ever state of Arizona this June. Arizona joins representation from Missouri, Illinois, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Hawaii, California, Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, Texas, West Virginia, and New York.
"We are thrilled that John has decided to make the trip to Peru," said Rick Dosky, Chief Financial Officer of the Captains Club.
Everitt, a wonderful registry will add to an already talented field of rookies and boost the average age at the annual event. "John is about 160 pounds and he can reportedly hit the ball a long way", said Jon Munksgard. "He is just short of spectacular when he gets a golf club in his hands."
"If John is as talented as Jon Munksgard, he has a lot of regional tournament experience and has a very solid foundation of fundamentals," Dosky said. "It's not hard to tell what a national championship atmosphere will do to his game."
The 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins on June 4 with the annual, but optional practice round. Participants are required to pay all remaining balances by April 26.
