Gibson & Rutter Sign
April 4, 2008
WESTERVILLE, OH — Michael Gibson announced in late-December that he will be the 22nd player to represent Ohio in the 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship, slated for June 5 in Peru, IN. Naturally, a few Captains Club members accompanied the rookie Gibson to the press conference.
Gibson, a.k.a. Moose, has a sketchy and unknown past as he signs for his first Major Championship. "This is our second Moose along with Matt Davis, says Kevin Long, Jr.. "I expect a rookie Moose to be multi-talented player and we don't mean driving, chipping and putting," says Kevin Long, Jr.. "His talents better lie in drinking, tolerance to Pokey's seminars and endurance from lack of sleep. I would expect another John Daly, which is a leader and not a follower."
Gibson was asked to comment on his rookie appearance. "Well, 'officially' I hope to... A) find the venue, B) play better than my 'sponsor', Rick Dosky, and C) find more golf balls than I lose."
[Trent Cooper starts laughing.] "You must really suck if you cannot beat Dosky. The guy is playing with one mechanical hip."
Moose added, "The Spackler just has that 'feel' of a furtile recruiting ground for A.A. It sounds like perfect ground for me."
Gibson posted a 28-over 100 at Scioto Reserve Golf & Athletic Club last September. He also posted a much better 16-over 88 at Woodland Golf Club.
Moose signs as the 57th player to the tournament field. In other news, Wayne Rutter will join Scott Miller and represent West Virginia for his first Major Golf Tournament. Rutter signs as the 58th player.
The 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins on June 4 with the annual practice round. Participant Options will be accepted for four more days. Outstanding participant balances are due in the mail by April 26.
