Shortest Commute Ever

May 20, 2008

PERU, IN — The #1 amateur golf tournament, the Carl Spackler Open Championship, announced today it will return in June with more than its traditional feel and traditional financing. The Captains Club has also included the largest participant suggestion in the past 4 years.

The tournament will experience the shortest and fastest overall commuting in event history. The record time will shatter the previous record at Thunder Hill by 52 percent.

The Best Western Circus City to Rock Hollow, return to hotel, hotel to dinner or evening entertainment and return to hotel will require just 24 minutes per day.

The single commute from hotel to Rock Hollow is a record low 2.5 miles requiring just 5 minutes by vehicle. The distance drops below the very short Tanglewood Park commute in June 2004.

Although not walking distance or record mileage, the Captains Club also delivers highlighted entertainment and dinner options within 7 to 9 minutes by vehicle.

"It is the difference between Peru and everywhere else," says Don Creighton, Vice President of Tournament Transportation. "There are hundreds of great golf courses with entertainment, hotel, and restaurants nearby. However, there are just a handful like Peru, IN that allow the tournament to deliver unthinkable budgets."

Last year, Michigan required 56 to 66 minutes round trip for both golf and entertainment commuting. The Neuse required 60 minutes daily. Mountain Valley required a record high 1 hour and 20 minutes. Tanglewood Park in 2004 required just 20 minutes daily, but no offsite evening entertainment was provided. Thunder Hill in Ohio required 50 minutes with legendary entertainment across the street from the lakeside cottages.

"I actually can drive from hotel to Rock Hollow in 4 minutes," says Pat Boland, Vice President of Red Tee Lottery. "The commute requires three quick right turns and very welcome after the past 3 years."

The drive from hotel to Homer's Sports Bar on Canal Street is a slow moving 7 minutes. The drive to Whiskey River Bar & Grill in downtown Peru involves many traffic lights and a slow moving 9 minutes.

"The Captains Club has obtained a shuttle bus," says Creighton. "We have every intention to provide a safe form of transportation and eliminate every possible risk."

The 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins in 15 days.
