Shuttle Bus Upgraded
March 28, 2008
PERU, IN — The Carl Spackler Open Championship acquired an upgrade to shuttle bus transportation with Don Creighton, Vice President of Consumption Management making the announcement on Thursday night.
"Welcome. The Captains Club asked me to hold a brief press conference to speak about bus service," said Creighton. "The tournament is expected to return with safe shuttle bus transportation, but this time included in the $359 tournament fee," said Creighton. "What seems impossible appears to be coming true. We have upgraded the tentative schedule and opportunity."
Creighton projected a schedule on the wall behind him. The shuttle bus will be available for 6 hours on Wednesday and Thursday night. The shuttle will also be available for 8 hours on Saturday night.
"Are there any questions about the evening shuttle service?" asked Creighton.
Randon Mineweaser said, "How much is it going to cost me?"
Creighton replied, "The shuttle is included in your tournament fee. It is my job to convince you that tipping the driver would be a perfect way to say 'thank you'."
Mineweaser asked, "What kind of vehicle? How big?"
Creighton replied, "It is a bus very similar to your short shuttle buses at the airport. It will seat 22 guys.
Homer's Sports Bar is located about 7 minutes from the hotel. We plan to provide the shuttle phone number inside the Tournament Pairing Sheets."
"Are there any other questions about the evening shuttle service?" asked Creighton.
[no response]
"The bus was acquired to make sure it is impossible for participants to drink half a beer and drive a vehicle. There is no reason why anyone should be driving their vehicle even if you plan to drink water. The bus with tip is cheaper than gasoline."
Creighton added, "There will be no Friday night shuttle bus service. The 4-man Scramble is being scheduled into dusk. A pizza dinner is expected to begin around 7:30PM CST."
Jon Sabat asked, "Is the tournament in Central Time?"
Creighton replied, "No. I am messing with you. Dinner at 8:30PM EST.
[pause]
We continue to be surprised with the opportunities in Peru, IN," says Don Creighton. "We have come to another agreement with the vendor for daytime bus service.
The Captains Club will be seizing the opportunity to provide shuttle bus service from the Best Western to Rock Hollow Golf Club. The service will be available on Thursday and Friday."
Randon Mineweaser asked, "How much does that cost?"
Creighton replied, "The actual service is part of your tournament fee. It is my job to convince everyone that tipping the driver would be a perfect way to say 'thank you'."
Randon Mineweaser asked, "How do I get a seat on that bus?"
Creighton replied, "I am not done explaining the daytime service.
The bus will be upgraded during the day. We are pretty sure a full size bus will be available to Rock Hollow Golf Club. Probably will seat 34 participants. The golf course is just 5 minutes from the Best Western. There will be two or three trips to the golf course. I would imagine one trip every 15 minutes."
Creighton added, "Matt Davis is handling bag storage at Rock Hollow. All participants are responsible to obtain a bagtag on Wednesday and get their bag to Rock Hollow on Wednesday and remove it after golf on Saturday.
Randon... do you have any questions?"
Mineweaser asked, "Free bus service during the day and at night. Are you serious?"
Creighton replied, "It is not free. It is part of your tournament fee, but it makes the fee in Raleigh appear ridiculous. This is the difference between Peru, IN and everywhere else. It is my job to convince everyone that tipping the driver would be a perfect way to say 'thank you'."
Creighton added, "We will be making multiple trips to the golf course. We have 72 golfers. We cannot have 72 golfers sleeping in and expecting to ride on the second or third run. We need to get out of bed collectively and fill the first bus."
Jon Sabat asked, "Is the service available after golf?"
Creighton replied, "Yes. The times will remain unknown. I will be working with the driver on specific times based on pace of play and weather delays."
Mineweaser asked, "Can we drink beer on the bus?"
Creighton replied, "That is a good question. The ride is 5 minutes during the day and 7 minutes in the evenings. I will look into it and let you know."
The 4-man Scramble on Friday is projected to be completed at 8:00PM EST with transportation, showers, and dinner lasting until 9:30PM. The very long day will conclude in the activity room at the hotel with general socializing, poker, and card games.
The 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins on June 4 with the annual practice round. Complimentary happy hours will be available at Homer's Sports Bar dependent on the shuttle service. There are 72 participants signed to play golf in Peru, IN.
