Shirreffs Grabs 2nd Place
March 24, 2008
KANEOHE, HI — Erik Shirreffs, a.k.a. Deputy Dog, shot a season worst 43-over 115 last week to take second position in the 2008 Virtual Tournament. The 49-point effort is his fourth round in the very early golf season.
"That's was a poor round and need to get things back on track," Shirreffs said. "Fatigue has been my problem in the past."
Erik has slipped during each of his four rounds. He opened the season with 60 points on January 3rd. He scored 58 points in late-February. His latest two March rounds resulted in just 54 and 49 points.
"Obviously, I have a lot of good memories in the Virtual Tournament," said Deputy Dog, who placed 35th in last year's season-long tournament.
Shirreffs carded one par and two bogeys at Kaneohe Klipper Marine Golf Course on March 18. He scored two pars and four bogeys on February 26.
Deputy Dog presently holds second position with 55.3 points. Jason Watson of Houston, TX has grabbed the top spot with 61.3 points.
"The top spot appears to be wide-open for anyone," says Matt Davis, Vice President of Bag Storage and Player Gifts. "I have not been very impressed this year."
The 2008 Virtual Tournament is expected to heat up in about a month when leaves begin to fill the trees and the northern grasses become dark green.
