New Leader
April 24, 2008
WARREN, PA — The 2008 Virtual Tournament has a new leader by the name of Kelly Smith. A leader by 3.8 points per round after a couple of stronger rounds at Jackson Valley Country Club.
Smith posted three rounds of late scoring 66, 67, and 68 points. The rounds of 79, 80, and 81 strokes included 30 pars, 22 bogeys, and 2 double bogeys at the 15th hole. There were no birdies.
"Each shot requires thought," said Smith after his latest round. "There is always trouble out there, but even more fairway and green. If you hit the fairway, you score par or bogey for sure. You really need to be focused on winning at all times."
"I have never seen such a boring golfer like Smith," says Dave Osborne. "Just bogeys and pars all day and everyday. There is no excitement with his game. No birdies and no quintuple bogey in there like my exciting scorecard."
In other news, Bill Bateson grabbed second place with a 67-point effort on Saturday at Scioto Reserve Golf & Athletic Club in Powell, OH. The stronger round included a surprising six pars. The round was also the 22nd consecutive without a whiff.
The 2008 Virtual Tournament has one more weekend before closing the books on April and the first third of the year.
