Hiawatha Landing Added

BINGHAMTON, NY — The Links at Hiawatha Landing is New York State's premier public, upscale links style golf course located 10 minutes west of Binghamton, NY. The golf course is presently regarded by Golf Magazine as the 5th Best Bargain in America. It is six spots higher on the list than Rock Hollow Golf Club in Peru, IN.

Designed by Brian Silva and Mark Mungeam in golf’s grand tradition, The Links at Hiawatha Landing is reminiscent of the legendary circuits of Great Britain — the authentic links-style layout evident in the rolling hills, windswept sand bunkers and ornamental grasses. Over 7,200 yards, the impeccably manicured course would challenge the Carl Spackler Open tournament field.

"We are very pleased with Binghamton," says Greg Long, Chairman of the Captains Club. "The minor league Mets baseball team and stadium, nearby indian casino, hotels, and entertainment in the area makes southern New York very worthy of a Carl Spackler Open."

Water comes into play on seven holes, yet there are no forced carries — and best of all, there are no blind shots… you can create your own challenge. The 17th and 18th holes are two of the most exciting finishing holes on any course. From the first tee to the last green, The Links at Hiawatha Landing issues an endless series of choices, making each hole and each round as inspiring as the first.

"The first step to any Spackler is finding a course," says Long. "That means creating a list and eliminating a portion based on availability, lodging availability, and non-golf entertainment. With the exception of Binghamton and Albany, the state of New York has near zero availability for upscale courses of value."

The tournament continues to create and scout for next year's venue.

The 2009 Carl Spackler Open Championship is scheduled for June 3-6 or June 10-13. An announcement on tournament location is expected in October.
