Hiawatha Landing Removed

September 11, 2008

APALACHIN, NY — The Links at Hiawatha Landing is New York State's premier public, upscale links style golf course located 10 minutes west of Binghamton, NY. The golf course is presently regarded by Golf Digest as the 5th Best Bargain in America, however rising costs and lack of availability has removed the venue from the 2009 list.

Designed by Brian Silva and Mark Mungeam in golf’s grand tradition, The Links at Hiawatha Landing is reminiscent of the legendary circuits of Great Britain — the authentic links-style layout evident in the rolling hills, windswept sand bunkers and ornamental grasses. Over 7,200 yards, our impeccably manicured course will challenge the Carl Spackler Open tournament field.

"We are very pleased with Binghamton," says Greg Long, Chairman of the Captains Club. "The cost to play 350 rounds plus lack of availability pushes the tournament elsewhere."

Water comes into play on seven holes at Hiawatha Landing, yet there are no forced carries — and best of all, there are no blind shots… you can create your own challenge. Our 17th and 18th holes are two of the most exciting finishing holes on any course. From the first tee to the last green, The Links at Hiawatha Landing issues an endless series of choices, making each hole and each round as inspiring as the first.

"The first step to any Spackler is finding a course," says Long. "That means creating a list and eliminating a portion based on early June availability. The state of New York is full of conflicts."

The tournament continues to manage its venue list. Courses that make the list are contacted for availability, which includes 325 to 360 rounds over 4 days.

The 2009 Carl Spackler Open Championship has been widdled down to Appalachian Mountains and Interstate 81, which include Conklin Players Club, Mountain Valley Golf Course, and Packsaddle Ridge Golf Club. The incredible Riverfront Golf Club is also in the running for 2009 venue.
