The Sextuple Bogey
September 10, 2008
CINCINNATI, OH — Brent Kaniecki just fired 77 points in Cincinnati at Sharon Woods Golf Course. The wonderful round, which included 5 pars and 6 bogeys, also included a round killing sextuple bogey at the 9th hole.
"GOD DAMMIT," yelled Kaniecki after putting out on the 9th hole for a 11-over 46. "I absolutely hate it when I do that." The 40 stroke front nine and tight 9th hole was too much pressure." The 9th hole is uphill and turns right against the left-handed Kaniecki.
Brent hit three trees and a curb during the debacle. He also hit out of a greenside bunker and then again the same bunker three strokes later. Kaniecki carded a 24-over 94.
"I am sitting in the casino and just lost $150," said Kaniecki. "The money did not matter. All I thought about was that round killing 11."
Rookie Dennis Dougherty was asked for his impressions of the sextuple bogey at the 9th hole. "What is that? I have never heard of such a score." Kaniecki replied quickly in hopes of moving on. "The sextuple bogey comes after the quintuple bogey, which follows the quadruple bogey, which follows the triple bogey."
Daugherty replied, "Really. That is pretty cool. I need to get me some of those without the tuple-bogey part."
In other Kaniecki news, brother Mark scored 78 points while Stan scored 77 points. Brother Eric scored 74 points while struggling to break 90.
