January 5, 2004
PITTSBURGH, PA — Although, the On Tour Championship does not begin for 58 days, the annual update of NOOG points for all players has been completed. All 72 players registered for Carl Spackler Open group were updated today with several players making big moves upward and downward.
Jim Campbell, Jon Munksgard and Kevin Long, Jr. are three are the biggest positive movers on the NOOG point chart. Tim Nightwine, Greg Long, Tom Fowble and Mike Zabonik also moved, but downward in an attempt to level the playing field. The goal is to achieve a level playing field of 35 points per round of golf.
The On Tour Championship begins on March 1, 2004. The Championsip is a year-long tournament using average points scored as each player enters his personal scorecards.
Several rookie players that plan to attend the Open Championship in June will be required to start entering scorecards almost immediately. ?We?re really excited to get the ball rolling March 1st for the On Tour Championship. Hopefully, all this freakin? snow will melt by that time,? said Jay Dilks. ?I hope an opportunity to get the cobwebs worked out is granted,? added Don McFarland. Regular followers of the website remember that Don was one of the first players to commit to the 2004 Open Championship. ?I?m hoping that starting exceedingly early will allow me to get a quick jump on the rest of the field. The thing that worries me though is that I might get too good to obtain a point for double-bogey.
