NEW YORK, NY — The Captains Club announced the registration period for the 2009 Carl Spackler Open Championship has started two weeks early. The period started last Thursday and requires a non-refundable non-transferable deposit of $120.00.

"Let's get it on," said Don Creighton wearing the Carl Spackler Outfit. "It's time to stop talking about Spackler and get out the check books. Remember the deadline has been pushed back to January 28 and final payments must be mailed prior to April 15."

The tournament details are open to the public and available online at carlspackleropen.com.

The 9th annual tournament is scheduled for play 3 miles directly southeast of downtown Amherst, VA. The tournament business office is expecting 68 to 80 golfers for the event.

There are several requirements for all golfers wishing to participate. "To guarantee a spot, non-refundable non-transferable deposit ($120) must be postmarked by January 28," said Creighton.

In addition, all remaining balances must be postmarked by April 15. Each golfer is fully responsible to read and fully understand the "Rules of Engagement" which has been changed and republished. Distributing verbal invitations without our "Rules of Engagement" will not be an excuse in April. Lastly, please make sure your contact information inside the website is accurate."

Non-refundable non-transferable $120 deposits will be traditionally mailed and traditionally written out to Rick Dosky. Golfers will be signed up and checks will be processed online based on postmarked date. All credits from the Rock Hollow scramble ($12) rainout can be used as part of your initial deposit. All credits will be displayed online in the finance section.

"We have a couple of expectations for rookies considering their first major," says Creighton. "I am providing a general list on the wall in the back of the press room."

The list read:

· He can shoot 139 strokes or less per round on average.

· He can financially commit to a 4-day golf trip 6 months in advance.

· He is not annoyed by alcohol consumption around him.

· He likes to play golf and meeting new people.

· He reads email and visits our website at least monthly for updates.

· He understands a golf trip is generally hundreds of miles from his house.

· He realizes the tournament encourages local police to place drunk golfers driving vehicles in jail.

· He can respect all members and vendors plus follow simple directions.

The 2009 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins on June 10. The Virginia selection returns the event back to Virginia for its second time. Harold Anderson signs as the reigning champion.
