Lynchburg Hillcats

December 1, 2008

LYNCHBURG, VA — The Captains Club has been actively promoting its 9th Major Championship scheduled for June 2009. They announced on Wednesday their decision to purchase tickets to the Frederick Keys versus Lynchburg Hillcats Carolina League baseball game.

"We have confirmed the home schedule for Thursday, June 11 and cannot be happier with the unique opportunity," says Jeremy Myers.

The Lynchburg Hillcats are a minor league baseball team in Lynchburg, Virginia. They are a Class High-A team in the Carolina League, and have been a farm team of the Pittsburgh Pirates since 1995. The Hillcats play home games at Calvin Falwell Field; refurbished and renamed in 2004, the stadium seats 4,281 fans.

The Frederick Keys minor league baseball team is the "High-A" class A baseball affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and the current champions of the Carolina League. The Keys are based in Frederick, MD. The franchise is named for Star Spangled Banner poet Francis Scott Key, a native of Frederick County. The team mascot is a coyote known as Keyote.

The Captains Club has reserved the first 90 seats behind homeplate with the exception of the pro scout seats. "The seats are the best," says Myers. "We also have the opportunity to throw out the first pitch and seizing the opportunity with our Carl Spackler Outfit."

There will be live music for 90 minutes prior to the game. Calvin Falwell Field sells endless $1.00 Yuengling drafts throughout every Thursday night homestand.

"This is beyond a rare opportunity," says Jeremy Myers. "The last place we would expect to find one-dollar beers is a baseball stadium."

Seats will organized and tickets will be distributed using the optional playing partner preferences collected in March 2009. The baseball game is included as part of the tournament fee.

Calvin Falwell Field was originally constructed in 1939 to be used as a complex for professional baseball teams. The baseball stadium was built in conjunction with an adjacent 6,000-person football stadium. The New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers played in the inaugural game at City Stadium on April 11th, 1940 in front of an estimated crowd of 7,000.

The Stadium had a major 6.5-million dollar renovation in 2004. It included a complete renovation of the concourse with the addition of seat back chairs, and two picnic areas. The renovation also included the addition of two new concession stands, eight luxury boxes, a new press box, arcade room, spacious bathrooms and a state-of-the-art scoreboard.

"We expect the game to begin at 7:05PM EST and golf to begin as a dual tee at 10:00AM," says Myers. "We expect the shuttle bus to arrive back to the hotel for 30 to 40 minutes before leaving for the stadium. The stadium is a single mile from the hotel."

The 2009 Carl Spackler Open Championship will be played at Poplar Grove Golf Club in Amherst, VA. The practice round is scheduled for June 10.
