Zavinski Commits
October 16, 2008
GLEN ALLEN, VA — The Captains Club secured another verbal commitment for the 2009 recruiting class Wednesday, when highly-rated 2-time member Scott Zavinski announced his return to the 2009 Carl Spackler Open Championship in June.
"Greg Long and I were talking about several things a few weeks ago," Zavinski told SNN. "I just feel like it's the right time to put a stop to the negative rumors and announce my return now."
Zavinski's verbal commitment matches the verbal commitment to 2-time member Patrick McElroy of last month. Zavinski resides just 2 hours west of Poplar Grove.
Zavinski made his decision public Wednesday, but has been planning his return for years now. One of the country's most sought-after returning members, Scott Zavinski brings tournament marshall experience along with a respectable handicap.
"It is great thing to be returning to a major championship," said Scott Zavinski. "I wanted an early decision, but then again wanted to make sure I made the right one because it's a major, it's a big thing as you can imagine."
Zavinski is scheduled to return after placing 52nd at The Neuse with 75 points. He placed 31st in his rookie tournament at Mountain Valley with 83 points.
"I am planning to attend for sure and hope to add another 2 to 3 new guys to the tourney since it is close by," added Zavinski. "I am truely excited about the opportunity to return."
The 9th major championship begins June 10. A tournament fee announcement is scheduled for November 1.
