AMHERST, VA — Jean Dore, who has participated in four-straight Carl Spackler Open's, has signed to play golf at the 2009 Carl Spackler Open Championship at Poplar Grove Golf Club starting Thursday, June 11.
Jean will arrive to Amherst Wednesday and participate in annual practice round. He enters the tournament on the edge as "C+ player".
"Dore is as good as you get while staying in the bottom half in respects of golf skill," says Tom McCauley referring to sorted list of 88 golfers and their stroke handicap. "Dore has won almost nothing in his prior 4 years with the exception of a 5-man Scramble trophy at Mountain Valley."
Jean Dore has quietly posted a +17.6 stroke handicap. There are 44 golfers with a lower stroke handicap.
"I am looking forward to a few extra points this year," says Dore. "The four points for par is quite welcome."
Dore has broken 100 twice this year on two courses with less than 6,150 yards.
Somehow Matt Pritchard will arrive to Amherst from Dublin, OH as an "B+ player". Pritchard has not posted a round since July 2008, but protects himself from ridicule with his +12.7 stroke handicap. "I am not this good," says Pritchard as he continued to down play his ability. Jeff Miller and Rob Harvey chuckled and said simultaneously on behalf of the entire tournament, "We know."
Tim Davis of Santa Monica, CA enters his 3rd straight Carl Spackler Open as a "D+ Player". "I did not realize that I was this good," said Davis upon hearing the news. "Does that mean there are really 21 guys with less golfing ability coming this year? [pause] I need to inform my swing coach and friends that things are not as bad as they suggest."
Two-time attendee and 2007 Rookie of the Year, Davis, enters with the tournament as the 54th best player in Spackler history. He is ahead of just 2-time attendee Mark Wray as the worst player in Spackler history.
The 2009 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins Thursday, June 11 with Round 1 play. There are 88 participants ready to dual for the 9th Golden Jacket and hopefully not the Carl Spackler Outfit. Live Scoring will begin Thursday afternoon from Poplar Grove Golf Club.
