Belly Flop Contest

March 2, 2009

LYNCHBURG, VA — What many swimmers consider to be an annoyance could be celebrated this June in Lynchburg, VA when several Spackler participants face-off to see who is the best belly flopper.

The 1st annual Belly Flop Contest could be held at the Quality Inn swimming pool. The Friday night contest is expected to bring another brand of unique entertainment. Performances would be judged on style, performance, and the size of splash. The winner would receive $75 cash.

Contestants will take a stomach dive at possibly two different heights into the Quality Inn swimming pool. "This group is daring by nature, but the question remains if the guys can brave the belly flop burn," says Tom McCauley.

It all depends on the number of participants, but the Captains Club is expecting to have two rounds with one or two belly flops per round at flopper descretion.

"We need to see two great flops to win," says McCauley. "I am a skinny guy, but do have plenty of showmanship."

The Belly Flop Contest would occur in conjunction with the pizza dinner. Each golfing participant will be provided half of one large pizza of their choice from the participant option selector.

The contest will collect initial registration through the option selector. The initial registration number will decide whether the contest would become reality. Golfers wishing to enter the contest on June 11 can do so provided the contest is not cancelled in April.

There are 99 days before the 2009 Carl Spackler Open begins in Amherst, VA. There are 80 participants expected for the 9th event. Selections for participant options continue through March 31.
