Ready for 1st Major
April 10, 2009
CANAL WINCHESTER, OH — The Captains Club proudly announced the signing of 1 of 12 rookies to a national letter of intent. Rookie Justin Gorby has firm plans to play golf at the 2009 Carl Spackler Open Championship and continue his ongoing relationship with Carl Spackler.
"We are excited that Justin has decided to attend our national golf event," says Vice President of Awards Jason Watson. "Justin should be a great fit into our field of players. We are impressed with his sub-bogey handicap, which should grant him "A" status in our field of players. We see a great desire to play golf at the highest level."
The 5' 10" 205-pound Gorby has posted zero scorecards in the 70's or 80's, but is expected to hit Columbus area golf courses in April.
"It's an honor and a privilege to enter a tournament with as much prestige and with one that carries such an incredibly talented field as this one," said Gorby in a written statement. "I have spent most of the rookie preparations drinking beer in excess to build endurance for this 4 day event. It would mean something special to me to win a Golden Jacket."
"Definitely a contender," added Matt Pritchard. "He's strong with the flat stick, and good with the irons, the wedges, and the driver. He doesn't have one weakness in his game. The only thing missing is multiple major tournament experiences, and he'll unquestionably get that this year."
Gorby reportedly put his clubs up on Ebay so as to purchase new WMB's (Weapons of Mass Birdies).
Buddy Jeff Miller had his own thoughts. "Well, he's a Detroit native and all he talks about is bringing the Golden jacket to where it belongs," says Miller. "I keep telling him that if the Golden Jacket gets closer to Detroit than The Grande, it would probably spontaneously combust on whoever it is on.
He will fall just like every other rookie. These guys just do not understand the pressure. I will be surprised if he survives the Zavinski 100."
There is 90 days until the 2009 Carl Spackler Open Championship. An Awards Dinner and Presentation is set for June 13 inside the Activity Room at the Quality Inn.
