Kevin Cards 10-over 82

June 29, 2009

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Virginia's Kevin Long wasted no time firing up fans with pars on the opening two holes. Then closed with a 10-over 82 in beautiful conditions Saturday to finish with 67 points. The near perfect temperature at Arnold Palmer's Signature at West Neck reached just 81 degrees.

The round included 10 pars, 1 birdie, and 2 round killing triple-bogeys. "One bad hole on each side," said Kevin Long of his triple-bogeys. "It was disappointing to get so close to breaking 80 and fail."

Kevin Long birdied the 135-yard par 3 11th hole. The lone birdie was worth 8 points. "It was a big psychological birdie for me," Long said of the putt.

"I was staring a 7-over 79 right in the face at the 18th tee," says Long. "My inability to keep my composure through 18 holes and finish is disappointing." Long carded a triple-bogey 7 at the final hole.

Long's round was his 3rd posting of 2009. He moves into 40th position within the 2009 Virtual Tournament with 56.0 points per round.

"I would have liked to wipe-out the triple-bogeys and score a legendary 76," Long said, "but I made a couple dumb mistakes that I will learn from."

In other news, Scott Mealey continued to drop back to reality after his 96-point effort in mid-April. Scott now holds the top spot in the Virtual Tournament with Chad Long who presently average 72.3 points per round.
