COLUMBUS, OH — Senior member Michael Gibson is making news again this summer, but this time it is not a nonuple bogey making news. The 2-year member Gibson brought Little Turtle Country Club to its knees on Friday. It became a legendary performance because he played the back nine.

Michael, a.k.a. Gibbs, played the front nine while scoring 6 pars and a birdie. He returned to the clubhouse with a 1-over 37; a career low.

"Everything was working early and often," said Gibbs of his first 9 holes. "The putter was on fire. If only there was a 9-hole golf tournament in town."

Gibson turned the corner and carded a 5-over 9 at the 10th hole. Reports close to SNN Video reported that Gibson picked up his head several times during the hole, which resulted in the profanity driven quintuple-bogey.

He matched the quintuple-bogey at the 14th hole with 10 strokes. "A pretty special event took place Friday," says Henry Jensen. "It is not everyday that you see such margins between nines."

Gibson's 37-51 was a personal record, but far from a Spackler record. Chuck Long of New Germany, PA carded a 3-over 39 and a 27-over 63 at Mountain Valley back in June 2005. The round, which included a half bottle of alcohol at the turn, was part of Chuck's Horses Ass Nomination.

Back to Gibson, who damaged his consistency ranking on Friday with the 14 stroke margin. "Gibbs experienced quite a volatile round," says Captains Club member Brian Long. "He appeared to have a roller coaster of emotions. Something obviously happened at the turn."

"I prefer to look at the silver lining of such a collasal meltdown," said Gibson after his round. "The 23 putts is impressive. I am somewhat embarrassed to collect 76 points while constructing such a Jekyll and Hyde round. Needless to say, I did not stop at the media tent. I am expecting a call from the commissioner telling me to get my checkbook ready."

Gibson asked to file it under the same category of the Loch Ness Monster, Big Foot, and Area 51 (ironic). Mysteries of life.

Gibson scored an impressive 76 points despite the back nine disaster. The very high point total places the unbelievable front nine into perspective. Gibbs moves up to 16th position with the 2009 Virtual Tournament with 62.3 points per round.
