Louie's Backyard

LAGUNA VISTA, TX — Just off the coast of Laguna Vista boasts the world’s longest barrier reef island and is located near the most southern portion of Texas. The island is connected to the mainland by the Queen Isabella Causeway. “The Island” as the natives refer to it offers spectacular beaches with the promise of fun in the sun.

The Captains Club continued on Sunday to release the details surrounding the 2010 Carl Spackler Open Championship, which will be held in Laguna Vista, TX starting April 15.

"Warm tropical breezes, clear blue skies, bright sunny days, and Louie's Backyard are staples for this year's venue," says Captains Club member Pat Boland of St. Louis, MO. "We are pretty excited about this year's entertainment value. Louie's Backyard will provide a very unique atmosphere with a facility that would make Cattle Annies in Virginia look mediocre in size."

Louie's Backyard rests on the Laguna Madre Bay. The monsterous indoor/outdoor facility includes 58 HDTVs, 7 big screen DLPs TV's, pool tables, darts, shuffleboard, arcade games, sports bar, restaurant, pub, large outdoor decks, full dinner menu, and dance club.

At Louie's Backyard, there is no such thing as a boring night. Whether you want to sit and chat with your friends, cheer on your favorite team or cut a rug till the wee hours, we've got you covered. Kick back and enjoy your favorite cocktail while watching the sun say goodnight at the Sunset Bar.

Although its tropical pink facade is more SoBe than Lone Star, this busy baysider earns high marks as a laid-back place to enjoy delicious local-inspired fare, play a few games of shuffleboard, and share cervezas or cocktails with amigos (at the sports bar). Famed locally for its seafood buffet, Louie's also serves up a few doozies from its traditional American menu, including mesquite-smoked baby back ribs, pasta dishes, southwestern chicken, and crabmeat-stuffed jalapeños.

The Thursday night special for $6.99 includes 1/2 rack of our famous "Fall-Off-The-Bone" BBQ ribs with french fries. Friday night includes $5.99 fried shrimp baskets and $5.99 fried seafood baskets.

Participants can take a stroll outside to the back deck where they can rent a jetski or do some waterskiing.

"It is the second largest bar that I have ever seen," says Pat Boland. "The largest was many years ago in Los Angeles."

Louie's Backyard is 30 yards from Coconuts and less than 100 yards from 3 other waterfront bars. The event itinerary will include at least Thursday or Friday at Louie's Backyard.

The 2010 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins in 65 days. There are 40 to 60 participants and 100,000 palm trees expected for the 10th annual Spackler birthday party. The average nightlife temperature is expected to be a comfortable 72 degrees with early morning lows touching a bone-chilling 67 degrees.
