Owens Splashes into Open

February 18, 2010

UPPER ARLINGTON, OH — Belly flopping Bobby Owens decided to splash his way into the 10th annual Carl Spackler Open this April. The 2nd year member registered in January after purchasing a $99 Continental Airline ticket to Harlingen, TX.

"This is great," said Owens of the venue. "Gibbs and I are set to arrive around 10:30AM on Wednesday, April 14. We should be on the range after lunch and take advantage of some cherished practice."

Owens returns to the Carl Spackler Open after grabbing a Top 10 finish in his rookie event. "One stroke at a time," said Owens of his Virginia event. "Staying focused for a period of days and executing each shot with precise thought and movements. Being Bobby Ridgeway will give me the best chance to return home with a jacket."

Owens added, "My control is definitely going to play a part on this southern golf course because of its numerous water hazards and strong winds. I can rip it if I want to, but rarely required to power the ball. The wind can be factor to many when near the beach, but hitting low cuts is a strength of mine."

Owens is rumored to be flying from Columbus to Harlingen with Rick Dosky, Michael Gibson, and Brad Carder. Reports from several event sources also suggest that Owens will privately practice his belly flop with cigarette on April 14.

"I heard the clubhouse swimming pool has a diving board," says senior member and flop coach Tim Davis of Santa Monica, CA. "Slick is supposed to be sending a video feed to New Zealand. I hope Bobby takes the steps required to become a belly flop champion."

South Padre Island Golf Club was chosen to host the 10th annual golf tournament back in November 2009. The once-in-a-decade opportunity was found nearly one-year ago where it gradually became a reality with unprecedented fees for golf, entertainment, and lodging.
