Engaging the Enemy

March 17, 2010

MEMPHIS, TN — Sergeant Major Erik H. Shirreffs enlisted in the Carl Spackler Open back in winter of 2007. The rookie engaged his first major golf tournament in hopes of conquering the flagstick, but ended up in a difficult battle with his 5-iron. Shirreffs next mission is to persue a major championship in Laguna Vista, TX.

"It is great to return," said Shirreffs. "My 5-iron and I have been waiting for an opportunity to do battle on a southern golf course. We plan to survey the enemies and attack."

There was a single report out of Nashville, TN that 'one-club Shirreffs' plans to save on airline luggage fees by just carrying-on a dozen balls, speedo, kitchen pass dog bowl, and one golf club.

Shirreffs is coming off a career performance in Virginia. The expected appearance will be his 4th straight at the Carl Spackler Open. Predications for a solid tournament have been fairly spotty with his struggles in Michigan and 16th place thriumph in Virginia.

"I am excited about how I am starting to play at the Carl Spackler Open, and want to continue that momentum in Texas," Shirreffs said. "This might be the last tournament I play in before the 2011 Carl Spackler Open, which gives me 54 holes to make something happen."

The +30 stroke handicap and Director of Event Security continues to place better each year. He placed 25th in Indiana and 59th in Michigan.

Erik will represent the state of Tennessee and registers as the 38th participant.

The 2010 Carl Spackler Open Championship is a 54-hole handicapped tournament with an optional practice round. The 5-night 4-day event will take place in Laguna Vista, TX starting April 14. There are 51 or 52 participants expected from 15 different states.
