SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TX — With the announcement of South Padre Island Golf Club and Laguna Vista as the choice venue for the 2010 Carl Spackler Open Championship, the Captains Club continued releasing the itinerary stocked full of golf and entertainment.

South Padre Island offers up a wild playground, hot beach weather, and warm gulf waters. Matt Pritchard, Jason Ridgeway, and Justin Gorby held a news conference as co-owners of the inaugural 'Carl-Olympics'.

"The beach-style olympics is the perfect activity for loosening up after a stressful round of golf at a major championship," says 7-time member of the Carl Spackler Open Matt Pritchard. "The location is one of the best places in the world to host such an event. It is quite unbelievable and just glad I can contribute to a legendary day."

The Carl-Olympics will not only be fun, but will provide camaraderie throughout the afternoon using a team activity.

"We are purchasing panty hose, buckets, lawn chairs, three 1/2 kegs of beer, football, baseballs, and trash cans," says 7-time member of the Carl Spackler Open Jason Ridgeway. "The event will require superior strength, athletic skill and endurance. All you need as a participant is to bring yourself and your drinking game to compete at a very high level. Details and enrollment for the event will be discussed at the player meeting on Friday morning."

The 2-man teams will be completely random and we will not be taking requests to team with buddies. Once Gorby, Pritchard, and Ridgeway have the participants after the player meeting, they will randomly draw names out of a hat to determine teams. They will publish the teams as an insert with the Saturday pairing sheets.

"The event is expected to transpire over a 2-hour period," says member Justin Gorby. "Some the mini-events inside the Carl-Olympics are 'Flying Wasp Beer Can Toss', 'Toss, Drop and Drink', and the 'Danny Noonan Obstacle Course'."

In addition to Carl-Olympics, the participants can enjoy beach volleyball, socializing at Wanna Wanna Beach Bar, and listening to the live band.

Little more than a waterside shack, the Wanna-Wanna Beach Bar and Grill is a local favorite and the place to find beach bums and vacationers alike. Wanna-Wanna's customers are a peculiar mix. Patrons of the adjacent Island Inn Motel and sun-bleached South Padre natives are the usual suspect at this palapa-style thatched hut. It's the perfect island dive complete with cheap, so-so drinks and great views of the beach.

The Wanna-Wanna is a great laid-back place to watch beach action, enjoy a grilled burger, and down an ice-cold cerverza. Friendly bartenders and locals make this beach bar one worth returning to. The fruity cocktails and relaxed atmosphere will melt away the hours. The facility has two volleyball courts just off a large deck.

The 10th annual Carl Spackler Open Championship will begin on April 15, 2010 with 51 or 52 participants in Laguna Vista, TX. The first-ever Carl-Olympics and Beach Activites will kick-off approximately 90 minutes after Round 2 on April 17, 2010.
