HARLINGEN, TX — The 2010 Carl Spackler Open Championship is in the history books. Jeremy Myers and the state of North Carolina have ownership of their first Golden Jacket. The sacred Championship Trophy has been paraded through the streets of Rocky Mount, NC and now in route this month through the state of North Carolina. The trophy will return to the Myers residence in mid-May.

So what's next for the 10-year old event?

The Captains Club announced today that New York, which was not selected for the 2008-2010 tournaments, does continue to be a strong contender for the 2011 Carl Spackler Open. The states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky are also being considered today.

"Binghamton, NY has solid opportunities," said Greg Garrett, Vice President of Scoring. "We visited the area last summer and really were impressed with two different opportunities. We definitely are not in need of a solid venue.

There is a group of us headed to eastern Pennsylvania this June. We will play three different golf courses and make some logistical and financial evaluations over the 3-day period."

Greg Long, Chairman of the Captains Club, will visit the highly-touted Norfolk, VA area in a few weeks for some 2011-2013 scouting. "I am not a fan of Virginia in 2011, but there are vendors very interested in hosting our event. I am not going to rule out Virginia until they rule themselves out with availability or pricing."

The Captains Club will also visit the state of Kentucky, Maryland, and West Virginia in 2010. "You cannot ignore the pricing in Kentucky and value in West Virginia," says Tom McCauley. "The 2011 tournament site is truely open for bid."

A reporter asked Long, "Do you have a favorite?"

Long replied, "Johnson City, NY. The tournament fee will be the highest  in our 10-year history, however the character-driven courses, lodging, and entertainment is pretty awesome. There are 8 members of the Carl Spackler Open would truely loved the New York scouting results last summer. I would imagine Johnson City leads the 2011 venue list."

The 2011 Carl Spackler Open Championship is more than a year away. There are scouting trips planned in mid-May, mid-June, August, and September. There are 60 to 100 participants expected for the 11th annual event.
