Climbing the Ladder
July 7, 2010
ST. LOUIS, MO — Pat Boland continues to shine and jumped into 2nd place last week amongst criticism that he is playing too well for the scores to be accurate or valid.
"Pat really is a good guy with a cute smile, but I am losing faith with these scores," says more than one member. Another fellow member says, "He cannot be this good. Pat Boland shooting in the low-80's is laughable."
Boland, a.k.a. Hurricane, has climbed quickly up the 2010 Virtual Tournament Leaderboard. The 8-year member of the Carl Spackler Open is averaging 67.6 points per round.
The Hurricane started his climb in June with a shocking 93 point round at The Hermitage Golf Course in Tennessee. The monster round included 3 birdies and 57 points on the back nine.
He returned to the golf course two weeks later and shot a 12-over 84 worth 70 points. With lots of success at the local Cresent Farms in Missouri, Boland returned two weeks later and moved back a tee to gain a little more internal respect. The move proved itself when he scored 76 points.
"He is getting consistent," says senior member Matt Pritchard. "He is not one of those guys that shoots 20 points one week and scores 80 points the next. His game is starting to become predictable, but some think he is getting old and forgetting some strokes."
The Hurricane continues to prepare for his second major of the year. Boland is expected to participate at Golfapalooza this September, which is held in northern West Virginia.
With a cocky Mark Palmer in first place and John McAninch falling back to reality after a brief period on top, Pat Boland could very well bring home the Virtual Tournament glory to the state of Missouri.
The 2010 Virtual Tournament continues with 39 participants. The 2006 Carl Spackler Outfit receiptent has command over last place.
