TERRA ALTA, WV — Senior member Jon Munksgard entered the Golfapalooza golf tournament last weekend in West Virginia. The 8-year member of the Carl Spackler Open shot a pair of very impressive scores to win his first major.

"It was some of the best golf ever played," says Munksgard of the win. "It is a shame Lewis continues to lose."

Mike Lewis, Pat Boland, Don McFarland, Greg Long, Jason Watson, Brian Flanagan, JT Thomas, Rick Dosky, and Greg Garrett also participated. Jason Watson and Munk were the only Spackler members to finish in the Top 10.

Munksgard won $330 cash and trophy for the victory. He also took home $60 cash for a closest to the pin, longest drive contest, and $120 for two internal golf events.

Jon shot a low 26-over 108 and 24-over 106. He also contributed to a two-man scramble round shooting a 3-under 69. The rounds resulted in 197 points and winning his first major.

"Munk was playing lights out," says JT Thomas. "It was almost like his ball was drawn to the hole like a magnet. There is a lot of people who would have thought 7 pars and 8 bogeys in 36 holes was impossible. Amazing!"

The topper of the weekend was Munk's cornhole bets on Greg Long and Walter Schoellmann for $55. The two-man team won the doubles cornhole tournament, which resulted in a $1,000 cash win for Munkgard.

"Things really worked out on Friday night," said Munksgard of the $1,000 win. "I did not even remember entering the cornhole auction thanks to Captain Morgan. It just seems to good to be true."

Munk took home more than $1,500 cash during the weekend.

"Jon was simply in a zone," says Greg Long of his tournament. "He was beating me straight up in Round 2 after 11 holes. I am happy for him."

The 2010 Virtual Tournament is expected to slow down in the next few weeks as colder weather settles into the northern states. Jean Dore, Mike Hawley, and Matt Mogel share a three-way-tie with 70.0 points per round.
