Loozers Stumble on Day 1

June 10, 2004

WATERLOO, IL — Hopes of a Golfapaloozer bringing home the Gold Jacket from the 2004 Carl Spackler Open were dashed just shortly after tee-off in today's Round 1 at Tanglewood Park.  After a solid practice round on Wednesday, Butter stumbled out of the gates today - opening with 3 double bogeys and a quadruple bogey, finishing with a 101 and in 32nd place.

Fellow Loozer Patrick Boland continues to highlight flaws in the Noog/Melc scoring system by shooting a solid 86, but earning only 24 NOOG points and in 36th place.  Slick struggled to an opening round 94 earning a Patel-like 14 Noog points and sits just 4 spots from the cellar.

In typical Dosky fashion, the Hamburgler posted a 120 with 33 Noog points, prompting him to say "I was on fire out there today."  The lone bright spots for the Loozers came from Watson and Garrett, who both rank in the Top 10 at 5th and 7th.  Keeping them in the hunt appears to be their putting, as they scored 16 and 18 putt points, respectively.

Grasping for answers and excuses, Flanagan could only say, "The playing conditions really bothered me out there today."  Reports out of Winston-Salem had it at 85 degrees and sunny on Thursday.
