Top Spot Hunting
July 2, 2004
EBENSBURG, PA — Success didn't spoil Brian Long and he is nearly ready to go after the top spot. That is the top spot in the 2004 On Tour Championship.
The biggest season long golf tournament remains the only focus for Brian Long. A year ago, Brian quietly scored 30.7 points per round and placed 22nd, but this year has a new passion for the game and is making a major attempt to capture glory.
Repeating 8 pars and a birdie per round is nearly impossible for Long to reproduce. But his 66-point effort at Champion Lakes is making believers out of many. He followed that monsterous round up with a 43-point effort at Jackson Valley.
"I cannot be stopped with this kind of golf," says Brian. "I should be in the top 5 by mid-July and in the top 2 by August. Hoffert better be looking over his shoulder."
Kyle Marti was not as optimistic. "How can someone shoot 109 at Tanglewood Park and 10 days later shoot 86?," says Marti. "That is quite impossible and explains his Champion Lake playing partner. Someone needs to watch him."
The On Tour Championship is scheduled to complete on November 30, 2004. The field of 88 players who started the tournament back in March are closing in on the stretch run. The tight field is chasing Glenn Hoffert as he can bring home his 2nd Tour Championship.
