MOUNT STERLING, KY — We have got interesting news for everyone. You have not seen tough until you have putted the greens at Old Silo. The greens are fast. The greens are so fast and with so much break, they will slow pace of play down to a crawl.

Old Silo Golf Club is a brutal golf course and the greens aren't the chink in the armor.

The greens at Old Silo are expected to be fast and true. The stimp speed could reach head-spinning 11 feet on a regular basis. That is brutally fast for a Carl Spackler Open on flat greens and Old Silo's greens are not flat. The course traipses up and down the hilly farm country and the enormous putting surfaces match the topography.

"The greens will scare golfers into daily four-putts," says Greg Long, Chairman of the Captains Club. "Hitting the green with an iron is not good enough in Kentucky. You need to be on the same green tier as the actual flagstick in many cases to have a fighting chance for a two-putt."

The greens at Old Silo are expected to undulate as much as Poplar Grove (2009) in Virginia and The Grande (2007) in Michigan. They also are expected to be as fast as Tanglewood Park in North Carolina. "The greens will frustrate the best. The key to this year's golden jacket is putting," added Long.

"I consider my short game to be top-notch," says Captains Club member Tom McCauley. "My short commute to the event, course knowledge, and short game should give me a wonderful chance to bring home a Golden Jacket and Championship Trophy to Fuzzy Zoeller and state of Indiana."

Old Silo was designed by Champions Tour Player Graham Marsh in 2000. This 18-hole championship design is situated on 209 acres of rolling bluegrass countryside, and is located just 30 minutes east of Lexington off I-64.

The 2014 Carl Spackler Open is scheduled for May 14-18. There are 48 to 64 golfers expected to participate in the 14th annual event. The deadline for registration is January 31 with participant options beginning February 15.
