MOUNT STERLING, KY — Rob Hench, on behalf of the Captains Club, held the last press conference before the 3-month national signing period for the Carl Spackler Open expires on January 31. He provided some additional information while hitting balls at the range in Lexington, KY along with making himself available for a few questions regarding the tournament in Kentucky.

"Thank god the tournament has come to Kentucky. [pause] Last Call! Everyone has a few remaining days to get their checks postmarked," said the 1-year member of the event. "January 31. 120 bucks. Non-refundable. Non-transferable. It is cold as Antartica out here. Any questions?"

Jon Marti, a 9-time member representing Pennsylvania, stepped forward with a couple of questions. "What do you think the biggest change will be this year?" Pat Boland of the Captains Club, who played scouted the resort in August, was conferenced in for a moment and replied, "It is a quiet place similar to Snowshoe, WV, however cell phones will actually work. The quality of golf course is super and property is beautiful."

Marti replied, "Sounds great. Are there any other notable changes?"

Boland said, "We are sleeping, drinking and playing golf again. Live Scoring will return. We are attempting to eliminate pairing sheets completely by May. The goal would be to add red tee, pairings, starting hole, news, itinerary to the mobile website. The golf course is as difficult as last year, but with much less trees. The weather in May is a large concern."

Senior member Mark Wray said, "I have a question. What do you see as the biggest risk as we move towards this year's event?" Boland replied, "Off the course entertainment."

Hench glanced at his cell phone and said, "Boland and I will take one more question. It is brutally cold out here and I need to hit the rest of these balls."

Bill Bateson asked, "Where are we sleeping?" Rob Hench replied, "The Ramada Inn is basically next door to Old Silo. You can walk to the course. The hotel has a banquet hall attached similar to the banquet hall in Michigan. It provides the essentials for pur event.

I gotta get back to hitting balls. Later."

In other news, the event attendance projection dramatically decreased at the end of year to something between 48 to 60 golfers. There are several rookies expected to participate in 2014.

The 2014 Carl Spackler Open begins in mid-May at Old Silo Golf Club in Mount Sterling, KY. Event registration expires promptly at 11:59PM on January 31, 2014. Paid late-entries will be collected, held, and handled on April 8, 2014 when all cancellations are late-entries are known.
